and uses highly reliable, state-of-the-art scientific methods to support
the safe use of flavoring materials.
Submits data on behalf of the industry to the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) for safety evaluations.
Works with internationally recognized safety assessment bodies
to ensure the industry meets their needs for sound scientific data.
With IOFI-member EFFA, supports the European Union evaluation program for flavoring substances.
Through outreach via IOFI-member JFFMA, provides scientific
support to scientists and authorities in the context of the development
of an updated flavor safety evaluation method in Japan.
Along with IOFI-member US association FEMA, advocates for the Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) concept globally.
IOFI produces peer-reviewed scientific studies that illustrate IOFI knowledge of flavorings and their proper use.
