According to Raúl Amigo, IFEAT’s Cartagena conference chairman, the theme for the five-day event was “ ‘Las Americas’ (focusing) on essential oils and F&F markets in Central and South America, the Caribbean, Mexico and the Amazon.” The gathering also covered legislative and scientific issues for the sector.
Ballschmiede was the initial speaker for Regulatory & Legislative Developments session on September 11. With his topic “Global Trade – Quo Vadis?” he took participants through the evolution of multilateral trade, from early trans-national relationships in the Middle Ages through to modern day agreements that govern the trade in goods. He provided some case studies on recent tariff & trade issues affecting the flavor industry and explained the goals and status of the global harmonization of regulations governing flavorings.
